A movement to put an end to corporate person-hood is sweeping across our nation. California, Montana, New Mexico, Vermont, Massachusetts, Washington State, Hawaii, Idaho, Colorado and other states have already submitted legislation to amend our Constitution in order to nullify the Citizen United Decision of 2010.
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
Professor Jamie Raskin, constitutional law expert at American University stated in 2010, “Today, the Court has enthroned corporations, permitting them not only all kinds of special economic rights but now, amazingly, moving to grant them the same political rights as the people.
This is a moment of high danger for democracy so we must act quickly to spell out in the Constitution what the people have always understood: that corporations do not enjoy the political and free speech rights that belong to the people of the United States.”
Over 50 corporations have submitted letters of same to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees requesting hearings to explore constitutional remedies to overturn the Supreme Court’s flawed decision in Citizens United v. FEC and related cases. This letter follows over 350 events in 49 states – from teach-ins to courthouse protests – organized by many of signing groups to call attention to the negative effects of Citizens United on the second anniversary of the decision.
IS AMERICA SPEAKING?? WILL 2012 BE THE YEAR OF AWAKENING TO TRUTH and ACCOUNTABILITY?? I am doubtful, but let’s be hopeful.
