…for those unfamiliar with the 1599 Geneva text, King James executed those in possession of it, it was lost for almost 400 years, the Pilgrims brought this text with them to the New Land….one of the most pure translations ever.  -thePlanetPrisoner

Matthew 27
2 Christ is delivered unto Pilate. 5 Judas hangeth himself. 19 Pilate’s wife. 20 Barabbas is asked. 24 Christ is pronounced innocent by the judge, and yet is condemned, and crucified among theives. 29 Christ is crowned with thorns. 34 He is crucified. 40 Reviled. 46 He prayeth upon the cross. 50 He giveth up the Ghost. 51 The vail is rent. 57 Joseph burieth Christ. 64 Watchmen keep the grave.

……………………………34 They gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall; and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35 ¶ And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, and did cast lots, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, They divided my garments among them, and upon my vesture did cast lots.
36 And they sat and watched him there.
37 ¶ They set up also over his head his cause written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
38 ¶ And there were two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
39 And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads,
40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the Temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
41 Likewise also the high Priests mocking him, with the Scribes, and Elders, and Pharisees,

said,42 He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in him.
43 He trusted in God, let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God.
44 The selfsame thing also the thieves which were crucified with him, cast in his teeth.
45 Now from the sixth hour was there darkness over all the land, unto the ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 And some of them that stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah.
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and put it

on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 Others said, Let be, let us see if Elijah will come and save him.
50 Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up the ghost.51 And behold, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and

the stones were cloven.
52 And the graves did open themselves, and many bodies of the Saints, which slept, arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 When the Centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
55 ¶ And many women were there, beholding him afar off, which had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him.
56 Among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.57 ¶ And when the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who had also himself been Jesus’ disciple.
58 He went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,60 And put it in his new tomb, which he had hewn out in a rock, and rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed.
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulcher.

62 ¶ Now the next day that followed the Preparation of the Sabbath, the high Priests and Pharisees assembled to Pilate,
63 And said, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, Within three days I will rise.
64 Command therefore, that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his Disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead, so shall the last error be worse than the first.
65 Then Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch; go, and make it sure as ye know.
66 And they went, and made the sepulcher sure with the watch, and sealed the stone.

Matthew 28
1 The woman go to the sepulcher. 2 The Angel. 6 The resurrection of Christ. 9 The woman see Christ. 12 The high Priests bribe the soldiers. 17 Christ appeareth to his disciples, and sendeth them forth to preach, and to baptize. 20 Promising to them continual assistance..

1 Now in the end of the Sabbath, when the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary

Magdalene, and the other Mary came to see the sepulcher,
2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for the Angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 And his countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.
4 And for fear of him, the keepers were astonied, and became as dead men.
5 But the Angel answered, and said to the women, Fear ye not; for I know that ye seek Jesus which was crucified;

HE is risen!

6 He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was laid;

7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen

from the dead; and behold, he goeth before you into Galilee, there ye shall see him; lo, I have told you.
8 So they departed quickly from the sepulcher, with fear and great joy, and did run to bring his disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus also met them, saying, God save you. And they came, and took him by the feet, and worshipped him.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid. Go, and tell my brethren, that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
11 ¶ Now when they were gone, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the high Priests all the things that were done.
12 And they gathered them together with the Elders, and took counsel, and gave large money unto the soldiers,
13 Saying, Say, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14 And if the governor hear of this, we will persuade him, and save you harmless.
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught; and this saying is noised among the Jews unto this day.
16 ¶ Then the eleven disciples went into Galilee, into a mountain, where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came, and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me, in heaven, and in earth.
19 Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the holy Ghost,
20 Teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am

with you alway, until the end of the world, Amen.

The following is a bit of history of the 1599 Geneva Bible, followed by links to other truths about this banned translation.

Geneva Bible

First issued from the press of Rouland Hall in 1560, this Bible was the first to print each verse as a paragraph, and to print in italics words not in the original text. The Geneva Bible's origin was due to a body of English Reformers of the Puritan Party who sought refuge in Geneva from the persecution of Queen Mary. This was the Bible of Shakespeare, John Milton, John Bunyan and Oliver Cromwell. The Pilgrims and Puritans brought it with them to America.
This edition is a 1602 Geneva Bible.

In 1620 the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth with their Bibles and a conviction derived from those Bibles of establishing a new nation. The Bible was not the King James Version. When James I became king of England in 1603, there were two translations of the Bible in use; the Geneva Bible was the most popular, and the Bishops’ Bible was used for reading in churches.

King James disapproved of the Geneva Bible because of its Calvinistic leanings. He also frowned on what he considered to be seditious marginal notes on key political texts. A marginal note for Exodus 1:9 indicated that the Hebrew midwives were correct in disobeying the Egyptian king’s orders, and a note for 2 Chronicles 15:16 said that King Asa should have had his mother executed and not merely deposed for the crime of worshipping an idol. The King James Version of the Bible grew out of the king’s distaste for these brief but potent doctrinal commentaries. He considered the marginal notes to be a political threat to his kingdom.

In addition to being a threat to the king of England, the Geneva Bible was outspokenly anti-Roman Catholic, as one might expect. Rome was still persecuting Protestants in the sixteenth century. Keep in mind that the English translators were exiles from a nation that was returning to the Catholic faith under a queen who was burning Protestants at the stake. The anti-Roman Catholic sentiment is most evident in the Book of Revelation: “The beast that cometh out of the bottomless pit (Rev. 11:7) is the Pope, which hath his power out of hell and cometh thence.” In the end, the Geneva Bible was replaced by the King James Version, but not before it helped to settle America.

Great article. An interesting thing about gall. It was the mainstay of the Roman Army. It was composed of apple cider vinegar, or red wine vinegar, (depending on location), water, honey and sea salt. This combination enabled the Roman Army to march non-stop each day. The army would eat a meal in the morning and a meal at night but gall was world renowned, in the times of the Romans’ rise to power, as a drink concocted by the gods to enable men to be more god-like in their endurance. What the Roman solier was doing was trying to keep Christ alive longer so they could watch him suffer longer. What the soldier did not know was that Christ had said that he would not drink again of the fruit of the vine. So, I believe it was red wine vinegar. I use this mixture in the summertime. It enables me to work longer without so many breaks and the salt keeps me from losing to much liquid and the sugar in honey (levulin) breaks down slowly over a longer period of time so you do not experience a sugar rush. Trivia, I know but I thought it was neat.
