THE HOLY TRINITY Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
The Holy Trinity is the mystery of three Persons in one God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This revealed truth is at the very root of the Church’s living faith as expressed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. The mystery of the Trinity is inaccessible to the human mind and is the object of faith only because it was revealed by Jesus Christ, the divine Son of the eternal Father. Note that in the above biblical passage, Matthew has written “to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” not in their names, for there is only one God.
